WRAPPING THINGS UP - CLOSING THE DOORS ON ANOTHER STRATOSPHERIC YEAR

An extra log on the fire, another layer, top up another glass of wine, and a bit of candle light. I love winter. It means a lot of different things for me. In fact, just the heading towards the end of the year always has a significant effect on me.

It's been a massively busy year for Alexander Leaman Photography, and one of the most incredible things about photographing weddings is, perhaps obviously, meeting the people involved and jumping onto the ride even for just a brief moment.

THE MOST SUCCESSFUL WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

I came to wedding photography some time ago now. Technically, things have changed rapidly over the last 10 or more years and photographing somebody's wedding has become more available and accessible to all concerned. It's perceived to be 'easier' to find a photographer, and it's perceived to be 'easier' to take pictures. So everyone comes out of this a winner, right?

Finding a wedding photographer is partly about looking for a consistent quality that shows a certain level of competence in any number of situations, as well as a style that presents you how you want to be presented.

DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHERS SAVE THE (BIG) DAY?

Documentary Photographers save the (big) day?

An open letter to the British Journal of Photography.

Sir/Madam,

In reference to your article in the March 2011 edition titled ‘A very civil partnership’ by Diane Smith, I’d like to add a few points for discussion.

Today, the photography industry is thriving and in turmoil, depending on which side you want to argue from. There are, it seems, more magazines than paid photographers, more micro-stock libraries, more demand for dynamic digital content (and therefore less for print media) and so on.

To Have and to Hold?

I've been asked a few times if I will do 'just' a disk of images. And if I can then do this for half my usual price! My answer is always the same.

The answer is both yes and no, but actually more complicated the deeper you dig into it...

Who would make the better painting?

When I went to art school, there were a number of disciplines to specialise in. As it happens I chose photography. Over fine art painting, sculpture, ceramics, screen printing, and so on.
I'm glad I made the choice then. I think it's good to focus one's energy on learning one thing well.

Contemporary wedding photography, reportage, modern, classic wedding photography...etc....

Weddings are in themselves not a standard thing. Pretty much every wedding today is contemporary. It's of the moment. It's now. So why has your photographer got 'contemporary' plastered all over their site? Is that really a term that sells?

Not a jumping Bride

Shooting yesterday, the Bride came up to me to apologise. One of her friends had cajoled her into lying over her and a few other's laps for the sake of a comedy photo opportunity.
