Shooting yesterday, the Bride came up to me to apologise. One of her friends had cajoled her into lying over her and a few other's laps for the sake of a comedy photo opportunity. They made me do it, she said.
All very funny and light hearted, so why the apology?

Well, she was referring to a conversation she an I had in one of our meetings before the wedding. Before we'd got onto the subject she had been worried that part of my role on the day was to make her look a bit silly, and embarrass her, and that she'd cringe when she saw the pictures later.
I soon assured her that I was also uninterested in creating this false 'good times' jumping up in the air, bride being carried by the groomsmen, black and white with a bit of colour left in photoshop stuff. It's a cheap, formulaic approach to try to convince the world of your wacky ways and it says nothing of your real personality and often emotionally charged day. It's the photographer's get out clause - an unsophisticated way of breaking the ice. And while we're at it, we can ease back on the wonky angles too. Just be yourself, I said, and we'll probably get some nice pictures.
Good, she said.
